The Hurley Rec

That special family place...

About The Rec

Our History

The Hurley Recreation Association, more commonly known as "The Rec", was created in 1968 by a handfull of residents who recognized the need for a local recreational facility. After a survey showed sufficient interest, a formal Board was established and the organization incorporated. Next came the purchase of the land and a loan from the Farmers Home Association. The intial development and layout were accomplished through countless volunteer hours and donated equipment. Some of this assistance came from non-members; area residents that recognized this venture as the wonderful idea it is.

Our Legacy

As the years pass and these early days fade from memory, it's imperative that we don't forget the work that went into creating the luxuries we all enjoy today. All members must donate work hours each year. But we urge you to view this as part of your ownership in The Rec, and to look beyond this to do whatever you can to make The Rec a better place. Some members consistently perform over 100 work hours each year, as well finding others ways to keep costs down. Forgetting this community spirit from which The Rec grew could lead to a deteriorating facility and increased dues. Join with our past and present Board in promoting this team spirit, and thereby ensuring that The Rec is always the best it can possibly be. Always feel free to approach any Board member with a new idea. You can find them on our Board of Directors page, or just click on the E-mailbox at the bottom of the page to send them a message.

Membership

Membership in the Hurley Rec is unlike most other recreational facilities. You don't simply become a member, but instead join the nearly 300 families that own our beautiful 50+ acre retreat. Our current rate schedule can be found on the Rules and Requirements page. We typically work from a waiting list, but we invite you to fill out a membership form online and mail it to us!
